It provides an extensive list of features and functions, but it great at decompressing RAR, ZIP and other types of files. WinRAR is an awesome utility for dealing with compressed files. Like 4NT, I've been using TSE/32 since the 90's! It's amazing! TSE/32 Every command-line needs a text/file editor! Semware has been pumping out upgrades to this fantastically fast, nimble and highly configurable editor since the early DOS days with their QEdit. The below group of software packages represent a hand-picking of the GNU set, providing excellent utilities for automation and file processing. Be itself, the Linux kernel is useless without programs and this is where GNU comes in, with it's almost 5000 software packages which turn in the Linux kernel into GNU/Linux the Operating System! Luckily a group of poeple have brought the power of the GNU to the Windows OS. Linux provides the linux-kernel which is responsible for managing resources (memory, storage, drivers), processes and events in the operating system for programs this is all behind the scenes. Even if you haven't heard of GNU, I'm sure you've heard of the Linux kernel.

Forging it's roots in the old 16-bit DOS days as 4DOS, the developers of this software ( ) have continued to push it's feature set and ability top do almost anything on your computer. Don't get me wrong, the GUI is great for dealing with spreadsheets, word documents, images but when dealing with the filesystem and automating cron jobs and process, the command-line can not be beaten!ĤNT I've used 4NT for almost ten year now. Command-line tools are where it's at! With the command-line, you can just plain do more than with a GUI.
